Coming into the second year of the Foxbody generation, there were a few changes made for the 1980 Mustang. Some minor revisions included new high back bucket seats and color-keyed trim for base models, as well as new halogen headlights across the model line.

Option packages were also modified slightly, including a standard Sport Option for hatchbacks and available Recaro seats in all models. For Ford’s top-level performance model, the Cobra, some of the styling cues from last year's special Pace Car edition were added, such as the grille, hood scoop, and spoilers. Unfortunately, the 5.0 liter V8 302 engine was dropped for a more fuel-efficient 4.2 liter V8 with just 120 horsepower, in response to a second oil crisis. These factors likely contributed to sales dropping precipitously to 271,322 units.

Fortunately, it seems that the days of paralyzing oil crises are behind us for now, and those with 1980 Mustangs can focus on enjoying them to the fullest.
