With a major refresh occurring the previous year, there were very few changes implemented for the 1988 Mustang. The LX received a higher capacity battery, while California cars got a mass air system. Sadly, 1988 would be the last year that a T-top roof would be available. Despite being virtually unchanged, MSRP for the Mustang continued to shoot upwards by another $700-$1,100.

However, sales were unaffected. In fact, a total of 211,225 Mustangs were sold in 1988, 50,000 more cars than the previous year. Perhaps it took consumers a little while to get used to the new design, or maybe they were coming around to the undeniable performance that Ford’s coveted 5.0 liter V8 offered. The Fox Body remains extremely popular today, and is really seeing a renaissance in terms of desirability.
