After releasing a redesigned Ford Mustang the previous year, the 1995 model year was essentially unchanged. However, there were some new trim variants added to the lineup.

A GTS model was launched as a one-year model bridge between the base and GT, offering a cheaper alternative to a GT. It used the more spartan cabin and features of V6 trims (like cloth seats and manual windows/door locks), but with the power and performance of the GT. The lack of a rear decklid spoiler and fog lamps gave it a subtle, more sleeper look compared to the traditional GT.

Ford's Special Vehicle Organization came along to create several new, performance-oriented packages to help add more power and handling to these otherwise unchanged models. Customers could buy these 95 Mustang parts separately for their own modifications from many stores. Meanwhile, the SVT group created the Cobra R by taking the 351 V-8 out of an F-150 Lightning and tweaked it to make 300 horsepower and 365 lb./ft. torque.

Though buyers didn’t yet know it, the 1995 model year would be the last for the popular 302 5.0 liter V8 that had powered the Mustang GT for more than 25 years. The 4.6 modular engine would debut in the Mustang line in 1996, drawing both criticism for its smaller displacement and praise for its overall performance and reliability.
