Bringing about the highly-anticipated S197 generation, the redesigned 2005 Mustang was a huge hit with enthusiasts, offering a distinctively retro design that still incorporated modern style.

The same modular 4.6-liter V8 engine was used for the GT, but it was revised from being 2-valve to 3-valve. This granted 300 hp and 320lb-ft of torque (up 40 hp and 18lb-ft of torque from the previous generation), not to mention a fantastic new sound that remains popular to this day.

An even bigger change to the line-up was made with the introduction of an all-new 4.0-liter V6. The new V6 produced more than 15 additional horsepower and 15 more lb-ft of torque (up to 210 and 240 respectively) compared to the outgoing 3.8L V6. The new motor also ran more efficiently, resulting in better fuel economy than ever before for a V6 Mustang.

In addition to new style and power, the redesigned 2005 Mustang offered lots of new equipment and a much better interior. There were standard power windows, locks, and mirrors, remote keyless entry, larger brakes, and Ford's new MyColor instrument cluster, which was part of the interior package. Options included a better sound system, leather, power seats, and a four-channel anti-lock braking system with traction control. The GT also featured even larger brakes, a limited slip differential, and more. New colors were introduced for 2005 as well, including the popular Grabber Orange.

The 2005 Mustang was extremely well-reviewed, especially for the retro look that harkened back to the Mustangs from the 1960s.
