The first-generation Ford Bronco offers enormous potential as a project vehicle. With its high seating position and compact size, the Bronco is equally willing to do duty as suburban runabout or off-road pathfinder. The wagon’s fully enclosed structure was also stronger than other models and offered increased protection from rollovers, probably a contributor to the lack of open-topped SUVs on the market today.

In the role of the awkward middle child was the Bronco half cab. Equipped with a bed where the Bronco wagon included extra storage space or additional seats, the half cab was perhaps more practical than the roadster but not by much. These trucks are nearly as difficult to find as their roadster cousins, with fewer than 20,000 built in their abbreviated production run from 1966-1971.
